I am tidying up my junk boxes and found a nicely looking LCD module.  I guess I might use it for the demux module, but I forgot how to use it.  So I googled my old TaoBao post.

Tri T LCD module is professional because it uses SMD technology.  But it is not diy hobbist freindly because it is difficult for hobbists to use SMD things.  Anyway, I think I need to upgrade myself by doing some more practice in soldering smd connectors.  So here I go.

TriT LCD testing OK

It took perhaps an hour or so just to do the tedious job of soldering 12 wires from the ribbon cable to a 12 pin connector.  In the middle of the soldering job I found that it is not a good idea to solder the SMD ribbon cable, because the ribbon is too delicate and two fingers fell out because my soldering contact time is too long

Next time I think I will try the following.

1. just desolder away the ribbon cable altogether.

2. solder wires direct to the fingers of the module PCB.  The fingers on the PCB is rigid and therefore preferre to the ribbon cable fingers.

 

Anyway, I have finished the basic testing of all the 6 character LCD modules, and so far so good.  I think I will take a long break and resume testing the 2 graphics LCD modules later.
