I have only soldered the wiring for the first hex inverter HC04, and couldn't any longer to start testing the SPI CPLD LCD again. The first program execution did not work, but seemed to have done something to the LCD. I set a break point after LCD initializationa cursor movement, and was happy to see that the LCD does seem to have configured and moved the cursor to the expected position. It is only the subsquent write character lines that cause the crash.
